With giving over a thousand presentations in his career, Alex Stuart is an expert in GHG assurance, small-scale renewable energy and the carbon markets. After receiving a bachelor of science degree from the University of Guelph Alex became an entrepreneur founding two renewable energy companies, and even installing wind turbines for the U.S government. Alex is now using his role as the president and co-founder of Standard Carbon to help corporate Clients decarbonize their economic growth. Alex has set this mission within Standard Carbon to strengthen the ability of individual accountants and finance teams to be the go-to analysts, strategists and consultants which are indispensable to organizations across the globe. When Alex isn’t speaking on GHG accounting, Carbon Markets, or Standard Carbon’s newest software he is with his two children enjoying nature at his cabin and inspiring all to take climate action.

Lead GHG Auditor
THE ROLE
To support our ongoing greenhouse gas validation and verification activities, Standard Carbon is looking for a Verification / Validation team lead (Lead auditor) to become a long-term asset to our growing global practice. GHG verifications or validations lead to the creation of carbon offsets, a large and growing portion of Standard Carbon’s business. You will be working with a diverse set of clients to quantify the GHG reductions or sequestrations resulting from their investments in decarbonization. This position is hybrid remote work for the Greater Toronto Area office. This position reports to the President.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Participate in initial project engagement, risk assessment, and planning
•Participate in GHG Emissions Report verifications as part of the verification team
•Develop and prepare GHG emission verification reports, calculate facilities and entities GHG emissions from verified data, develop sampling and verification plans
•Determine appropriate facility and entities personnel to interview
•Review GHG emission sources and data collection systems
•Work with project managers and reporters to complete GHG verification in a timely manner
•Determine compliance of facility and entity GHG Emissions Reports with the regulatory body or voluntary GHG programme
•Balance the workload of multiple projects running simultaneously
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Either CPA or P.Eng. designation is a requirement
•3+ years of experience supporting GHG verifications
•Strong written, verbal, and data analysis skills are required
•Internally motivated, as this position is available as remote work
•Must be legally able to work in Canada without company sponsorship
•Must be able to travel within Canada and internationally from time to time and hold a valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Certification as a GHG Verifier from a recognized authority
•Experience as part of an audit team (financial or environmental)
